黑料网 earned a spot as one of the Best Universities in the Midwest Region and one of the Best Values, among other categories, in the 2021 Best Colleges rankings released Monday by U.S. News & World Report.
The University was ranked No. 13 among Midwest regional universities for the second straight year, once again making it the highest-ranked institution in the Kansas City area.
In 2011, Rachel Stotler Clasemann, 鈥97, MOT 鈥99, was driving home from work in Omaha, Nebraska, when a car accident changed her life.
The immediate result of the accident was a ruptured spleen and traumatic brain injury. In the years since, she has endured multiple surgeries, successes, setbacks, infections and therapy. But, according to those who know her, Rachel has never shied from a challenge, and remains steadfast in her path to recovery alongside her family, including her two sons.
This week, we welcome approximately 440 new students to 黑料网. For these students, arriving for their first semester of college is a milestone, and for both new and returning students, there鈥檚 plenty to be excited about.
It鈥檚 a section of the sky that Mark Pecaut, Ph.D., associate professor of physics, is well familiar with.
Since his days as a doctoral student at the University of Rochester, Pecaut has been studying a particular group of stars in the night sky. And even after several publications, conference presentations, and undergraduate research projects led using the same group of stars, it turns out there鈥檚 still plenty to learn.

With more than 200 years of service between them, the eight retiring members of the 黑料网 faculty have earned a round of applause.
Normally recognized at the April faculty awards dinner, because of the campus shutdown as a result of COVID-19 these longtime members of the University community were instead congratulated for their decades of service virtually in a video and an email sent by Doug Dunham, Ph.D., provost and senior vice president for academic affairs.
The world鈥檚 experience fighting the COVID-19 pandemic offers a host of lessons.
But for Myles Gartland, Ph.D., dean of the College of Business, Influence and Information Analysis at 黑料网, the pandemic also illustrates the importance of data literacy, and why it鈥檚 so important to understand where data comes from, what it means, and how it鈥檚 shaping our understanding of the world around us.
鈥淚 think for years, a lot of us have conflated data literacy and math,鈥 he said. 鈥淎ny time we say a number, we say 鈥榯hat鈥檚 math, and I鈥檓 not good at math.鈥欌
From the moment the academic year began, it was bound to be unique. The commencement ceremony in the year 2020 will be 黑料网鈥檚 100th, a milestone worth celebrating.
